Vacancy: Director, Central Asian Studies Institute

The American University of Central Asia invites applications for the position of director of the Central Asia Studies Institute beginning August 1, 2012. Established in 2010, CASI is a research and academic unit with the mission of promoting the study of Central Asia internationally. The director reports to AUCA Vice President for Academic Affairs, and is advised by an international board. 

 
Building on the successful international research conference held at AUCA in October 2011, the director of the Institute will lead efforts toward the development of collaborative research projects, establish and develop partnerships with research and academic institutions in Central Asia and beyond, oversee curriculum development efforts at the undergraduate and MA levels, and coordinate grant-seeking activities on behalf of the Institute. The director will work closely with the university administration and academic programs, but will also be expected to develop a high-profile formal and informal engagement with local and international research and academic institutions/circles, non-governmental and governmental agencies as well as other relevant civil society institutions. He/she will also be expected to teach one course each semester.
 
The ideal applicant will have keen and creative scholarly interest in Central Asia, solid practical experience of developing research and academic projects, and strong managerial skills. Minimal formal requirements include a PhD in a relevant field, excellent English, and proficiency in Russian and/or a Central Asian language.
