ENGLISH

WHAT IS ENGLISH?

English is a West Germanic language that arose in the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of England and spread into what was to become south-east Scotland under the influence of the Anglian medieval kingdom of Northumbria.

ABOUT US

The goal of the English Language Department is to empower AUCA students with the English language skills and academic strategies necessary to surmount challenges they will encounter when taking University courses. The department does this by offering learner-centered courses that promote English language acquisition to a level appropriate for successful study in an English speaking cultural environment.

The English Language Program offers minors in Translation and Interpretation and in English Language Teaching. Students must complete 21 credit hours to obtain a minor.

The minor in Interpretation and Translation focuses on teaching students basic skills in translation and interpretation in English and Russian. Students completing the required course work and maintaining a 3.0 GPA may sit for professional examinations in this field of specialization. A certificate in Interpretation and Translation is conferred to successful candidates.
