Current Research 1. Research project: Social significance of Islam in Kyrgyzstan Aim of the research is to explore the changing role of Islam and its social significance in post-Soviet Central Asia taking Kyrgyzstan as a case study. Using both quantitative and qualitative methods, this study intends to find answers to the following questions: What are the social attitudes towards Islam in Kyrgyzstan? Has the Kyrgyz society become more religious or Islamic since the collapse of communism? What are the outcomes of Islamic revival? To what extent is religion socially significant in Kyrgyzstan? What are the factors that make Islam significant or insignificant to the individual?
