Call for Proposals: Research Grants for AUCA Faculty Members

The Central Asian Studies Institute of AUCA is calling for research grant applications under its Central Asia Research Initiative. This program is intended to support original research that will generate new empirical knowledge and contribute to a better understanding of Central Asia.  In this round CASI will consider projects with the budget up to 10,000 USD each. The proposals will be evaluated by a special board consisting of the members of the CASI International Advisory Board. Please click here for more details.

 

 


 

CASI and Tian Shan Policy Center Hosted a Round Table on Partnership Between Parliament and Policy Centers

On 31 January 2012 CASI co-hosted with the Tian Shan Policy Center a public event titled "Forging Partnership with Kyrgyzstan's New Lawmakers: How Research and Policy Centers Can Help Improve Governance?" The round table, attended by parliament members and representatives of policy research institutes, discussed the status quo and prospects for productive cooperation between various governing agencies and policy centers in Kyrgyzstan. CASI Academic Workshop: Interpreting the Soviet Cultural Legacy in Central Asia

On 6-7 March 2012, the Central Asian Studies Institute at the American University of Central Asia will host an academic workshop aimed at discussing the frameworks that organize popular thinking today about the things that gave a sense of cultural commonalty to the Soviet experience in Central Asia, as well as the ways that they have been and can be analyzed in scholarship. The Central Asian Studies Institute will host a round table discussion on "The 2014 NATO Withdrawal from Afghanistan and Its Security Implications for Central Asia" on 7 November 2011 at 11:00. The discussion will aim to highlight the key aspects of the announced withdrawal of the NATO from Afghanistan in 2014 and assess the implications for both Afghanistan and the neighboring Central Asian countries. Coming: First Annual Conference of CASI

CASI will host its first annual conference, "Twenty Years of Central Asian Independence: Shared Past, Separate Paths?", in October 14-16, 2011. The conference aims to gather about 30 scholars from Central Asia and abroad to discuss some salient issues that the Central Asian countries seem to face on the eve of the 20 years anniversary.
