Shairbek Juraev

 

Shairbek Juraev served as Dean of Academic Development (2009-11) and Chair of the International and Comparative Politics Department (2008-09) at AUCA. His research interests include the development of the state in post-Soviet Central Asia, the inter-linkages of foreign policy and domestic politics. His publications include “Kyrgyz Democracy? The Tulip Revolution and Beyond,” Central Asian Survey (Volume 27, 2008), “The Third Restart: Challenges for Democracy in Post-Bakiyev Kyrgyzstan,” in Kyrgyzstan: Recovery and Reformation (PONARS Eurasia publication, August 2010) and various other policy memos. Shairbek holds MSc International Relations from London School of Economics and Political Science.

 


 

FINANCIAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE COORDINATOR

 

Aida Konokbaeva

 

Aida Konokbaeva joined CASI after serving as financial and administrative coordinator at AUCA's Social Research Center. Aida is an alumna of the Kyrgyz Technical University, Technological Department and the Institute of Management and Business, Accounting Department. Aida is in charge of keeping  financial accounts, organizing CASI events (conferences, public  lectures, roundtables, etc.), as well as providing logistical support to the CASI Visiting Research Fellows.

 

 


 

STEERING COMMITTEE

 

Emil Nasritdinov, Lecturer in Anthropology at the American University of Central Asia. He holds PhD from the University of Melbourne. His broad research interests include migration, urban anthropology, religion and development.

 

Gulnara K. Ibraeva is Associate Professor of Sociology atAmericanUniversity of Central Asia, Kandidat nauk in Political Sociology (SanktPetersburgStateUniversity).  Alumnus  of KyrgyzStateUniversity , Journalism Department andSanktPetersburgStateUniversity, Sociology Department.  Media and Gender Expert.  She teaches “Classical Social Theory”, “Contemporary and Advanced Social Theory”, Media and Society”, “Urban Sociology” and other courses.  


Medet Tiulegenov, Assistant Professor at International and Comparative Politics Department of American University of Central Asia (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan). Medet's research and teaching interests include social movements, governance and public policy, civil society in transition countries. Until 2008 Medet has been working at Soros Foundation in Kyrgyzstan and prior to that he was a research fellow at the National Academy of Sciences and Kyrgyz National University. He graduated in history from Kyrgyz State University (1993) and received Master of Public Administration from Bowling Green State University, USA (1996).

 

Ruslan Rakhimov, PhD from the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (EHESS - France) and an Associate Professor at and Chair of the Anthropology Program, AUCA. He was a research team member of a project on Pastoral Societies in the Transition Period: Space and Local Authorities'. Under this project, he conducted field research in Niger,Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.  He published works on various issues of the transformation of Kyrgyz and Kazakh pastoral societies during Soviet times, and his research interests are nomads and socialism, migration in Central Asia, political anthropology, and soviet every-day life.

 

Zarylbek Kudabaev, Chair and Professor of Economics Department of AUCA. Dr. Kuabaev is one of the most experienced economists of the country certified by numerous national awards including the title “Honored Economist of the Kyrgyz Republic” /Zasluzhenniy Ekonomist/. Dr. Kudabaev has an extensive experience in public service, and served as a Chairman of the National Statistics Committee of Kyrgyzstan. He has more than 100 publications on economics and statistics.
