Faculty Senate

 

About Faculty Senate

The Faculty Senate of AUCA is established, and derives its authority, from the Charter of AUCA. Its function is to address all major academic policies, including curricular innovation, research, standards, promotion, financial strategy and student intellectual life.

The Faculty Senate:

  • Consults and advises the President of the University with respect to the establishment, approval, initiation or termination of any academic program;
  • Consults and advises the President with respect to establishment of academic standards;
  • Consults and advises the President with respect to standards for admission to degree-granting programs;
  • Considers and proposes to the President the award of honorary degrees and academic ranks;
  • Considers, drafts and adopts rules of procedure consistent with the Charter;
  • Provides a forum for public discussion of any other matters of interest to the University community and articulates positions with respect thereto
  • Creates all Senate policies rules and regulations, including but not limited to the process for selection of Senate members.

The Faculty Senate has 16 members consisting of 14 elected members, one faculty representative from the Trade Union and one student representative. The term of office is for two years.

Standing Committees

The Senate establishes standing committees and has operational and oversight authority over such committees. The core principals of all Senate committees include: sound membership composition, international perspective, student-centered, effective communication, efficiency, integrity, and focused on policy.
