During the summer of 2013, the students and faculty of Anthropology program conducted an archaeological fieldwork on the site Aygyrzhal 2 near Naryn city. They worked together with local and international archaeologists from the UK and Japan.

 

Aigyrzhal 2 is an elongated hill along the Naryn River. The site represents different historical periods of Kyrgyzstan, from the Stone Age to the Bronze and Middle Ages.

 

As a result of the 2013 fieldwork,the radiocarbon dates for the Stone Age in the range of 11,200-11,700 years ago were received. These are the first and the oldest dates of Kyrgyzstani Mesolith, and one of the oldest in Central Asia.The received absolute dates for the Bronze Age are 3200-3300 years ago that point tothe Middle Bronze Age andis dated in Kyrgyzstan for the first time.
