The 2014 Student Games recently opened in Bishkek.

The mission of the 2014 Student Games is to promote healthy lifestyles and sports among students, as well as to recruit members to Kyrgyz national teams.

Competitions will take place in the gyms and stadiums of Kyrgyz State Physical Culture and Sports Academy, the Jusup Balasagyn Kyrgyz National University, the Ishakh Razzakov Kyrgyz State Technical University and the Construction Technical Secondary School. Student-representatives of 35 different institutes of higher learning will vie for glory in the Games. Each year both interest in and the competitive level increase exponentially.

Competitors are divided into three leagues. The winner of the last seven Student Games, Kyrgyz State Technical University, will accompany Kyrgyz National University, Kyrgyz Law Academy, Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, Kyrgyz State Physical Culture and Sports Academy and others in the top league. The path to victory in the top league lies across 15 different sports. The Opening ceremony will be on March 13th and the official closing ceremony will be on April 17th.

University chess competitions began on February 25th. Eleven female and three male teams are taking part. Each team has two or three players, with one reserve player. Strategy and logic are essential in chess, where one wrong move can mean utter defeat. Six students represent AUCA this year. They defended the honor of the university and made it to the semifinal. The final match will be held at GREENWICH PUB on February 27th. Let’s wish our students good luck in forthcoming round. Believe in their victory!
