Valentina Khomenko: “I have a big goal of doing something meaningful for the development of our region”

June 18, 2015

Valentina Khomenko is a graduate of Business Administration Department of the class of 2015. She is one of the best students, who are in the President’s List for her excellent academic achievements.

“Originally, I am from Osh, where I graduated from Olimp Gymnasium. I spent my last year of high school as FLEX student in the US. Before my departure to the States I had heard about US-CAEF scholarship. It fully matched with my interests, because it provided a scholarship for potential leaders, who were interested in the development of Central Asian region thought entrepreneurship, to study Business. Therefore, I started to take different tests and work on my applications to get into AUCA and apply for US-CAEF in the states, meanwhile my family was collecting all documents in Kyrgyzstan.

I always loved math and specially to calculate finances. In addition, I always wanted to be involved in the development of our region through entrepreneurship. Therefore, in order to combine my strengths, wishes and career goals I chose Business Administration Department.

My most favorite extracurricular activity is to volunteer and make some positive changes in our society. During the 4 years of study I did exchange semester in Norway. I have also participated in World Business Dialogue 2015 in Cologne and New Silk Road Alumni Caravan in Almaty, where the team from Kyrgyzstan won the first prize for the best business idea.

I started to care more about environment after I took Sustainable Development course and was involved in recycling program at AUCA. Right now I do not even take a free plastic bag at the supermarket because it’s against my green principles.

My GPA is a little bit lower than 4.0, but pretty close to it. In order to keep your GPA high a student should love what he/she studies, be responsible and respectful, and have good time management skills.

There are so many good memories connected to AUCA starting from the orientation week until commencement. The most meaningful ones have to do with my department and our group BA-111, when we played Secret Santa and spent a lot of great moments at Business Clinic.

I love enthusiastic, ambitious, and talented students with whom I got to study. Those people are full of potential and have a clear vision of their future.

I still have a big goal of doing something meaningful for the development of our region. However, before I do that I want to try myself in different spheres and see what fits me best.”
