The Graduate School of Social Sciences met with its new students

September 8, 2016

On September 2, 2016, the Graduate School of Social Sciences welcomed its newly admitted students for the 2016-2017 academic year. The students will be studying in the Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, and Central Asian Studies (MACAS) departments.

Professors and heads of these AUCA departments became acquainted with the new students, laid out the rules of the university, and wished them all well in the upcoming academic year.

“I am glad to welcome all the Master’s students, who are entering our newly opened departments this year, specifically the Master’s programs in Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, and MACAS. I think it is quite unique for AUCA and for Kyrgyzstan,” said Cholpon Chotaeva, the head of the MA program in Anthropology.

As of right now, AUCA has 28 Master’s students; however, registration is still open, so the number of students can still change.

The introductory meeting with the professors also served to energize the new students for the coming academic year.

“AUCA is my home, my alma mater. I chose to do an MA in Psychology because I graduated from AUCA in International Comparative Politics with a minor is Psychology, so I know all the professors already. I taken classes with these professors before, and they are very professional. I believe that the Psychology Department is the strongest at AUCA,” said Chynara Bakyt kyzy, an AUCA alumna and current MA student.

“I will be studying in the Anthropology Master’s program, even though I already have a Master’s in Economics. Before I thought about entering this program, I did not really understand what anthropology was and what it did, so it is very interesting for me to study it now. I have my own goals, and now I can imagine what I will do in the future. The meeting [with the professors] was good, I got to know them and my new group mates. They are all very nice,” said Myrzaiym Taalaibek kyzy.
