Call for Proposals: First AUCA-IU Workshop on Central Eurasia

Call for Proposals: First AUCA-IU Workshop on Central Eurasia

December 8, 2016

Dear colleagues,

The American University of Central Asia and the University of Indiana plan to hold a biannual two-day workshop highlighting emerging trends in the scholarship on Central Eurasia. The workshops will take place alternatively at AUCA and IU campuses, and will unite faculty and advanced graduate students from both universities. The initiative is funded by AUCA endowment at IU and all expenses of travelling participants will be covered.

On 15-16 March 2017, CASI will host the first AUCA-IU workshop on Central Asia. The topic of this year's workshop is "Locating Central Asia within Eurasia in the Past and in the Present." We suggest doing it by initiating a pluri-disciplinary dialogue about Central Asia's involvement in various social, cultural, political or economic processes taking place in Eurasia in the past and in the present, and expect that as an opening theme "Locating Central Asia" will identify a set of topics of mutual interest for future workshops.

If you are interested in joining the workshop, please send a title and an abstract (300 words) to casiaucakg@gmail.com by January 16, 2017.

IU participants in this year's workshop include Jamsheed Choksy (distinguished professor, Iranian studies), Nazif Shahrani (professor, Central Asian studies), Kemal Silay (professor, Ottoman and modern Turkish studies), Gardner Bovington (associate professor, Central Asian studies), Edward Lazzerini (academic specialist, Central Asian studies) as well as three PhD Students.
