AUCA CUP 2012

AUCA CUP 2012

March 29, 2012

Under the sponsorship of LLC “Winner Sport”, an annual AUCA’s indoors soccer tournament was held on March 24th and 25th among the university’s students, alumni and staff.

10 team captains drew the lots on the random drawing, organized by Tengelbes Musaev and Farukh Abaev, as a result of which two groups of 5 teams were

Group A:

Alumni

ECO

“D” Cup

Barbra Streisand

Red Harvest

Group B:

Titans

PES United

Alga

Ilbirs

109

The tournament commenced with the speech of Extra-curricular activities dean, Mr. Shulgin Nickolay Grigoryevich’s, who thanked the tournaments’ organizers and the participants for active participation in the university’s outdoor activities. He also said that this tournament is being held in regards with the wonderful spring holiday Nooruz and as of this year the indoors soccer tournament will be held on the date closer to the holiday.

During the first day, teams were playing only within the groups and 6 out of 10 teams were supposed to make it through to play-offs. The competition began at 10 in the morning and was prolonged for two days time. Viewers from around the sport facility “Libero” were rounding up towards the pitch to back their friends and university peers. Every team in either group played 4 games and as a result, following teams have made it through into play-offs: Group A: Alumni, ECO, “D”-Cup, and from group B: Titans, PES United and Alga.

I would like to highlight the Alumni and ECO match in group A, which ended with a “hockey” score of 4:4. ECO team, who eventually became the winner of the tournament, had scored at the very last seconds and made it 4:4.

The next match, worth pointing out was the Alumni vs. Red Harvest game, which ended with the score 9-5 in favor of the Alumni team. After Alumni scored 8 goals, Red Harvest team demonstrated their strong will by scoring 5 in response, thus keeping its fans hope alive. But Alumni team, whose captain was Taalay Saidov, scored the last goal, thus providing for themselves participation in play-offs.

Two teams made it to play-offs. But the teams Barbara Streisand and D-Cup had to compete between each other to become the third team in play-off teams’ list. It was held the next day of the tournament, and D-Cup came as the winner, who scored 3-0, 2 of which were scored by a first-year student Sapar Maksatbekov. At the end of the competition, he received an award “the best young player”.

Within the second group, interesting games were played too, as it deserved to be called the group of favorites. Having won 3 games and 1 draw either of the teams, the Titans and PES United made it through to play-offs. It is necessary to point out that the Titans team players are the current champions of last year’s spring tournament and the PES United is the champion of inter-faculty competition, held in autumn, 2011. The rest of the teams: Alga, Ilbirs and 109 competed among each other to get to play-offs. After the hard rivalry, Alga got to play-offs, having eventually beaten 109.

The next day, the drawings have shown the following matching of the teams in play-off.

 ЕСО – Alga

The Titans – Alumni

PES United – “D” Cup

The following teams played off the rest three teams: ECO, Alumni and PES United.

First game was between ECO and Alumni. It was a very hectic game. Both teams scored two goals and it looked like the penalties will decide the winner until Ulan Abazganov, from ECO team, having tackled the goalie, scored a winner goal 3 minutes before the end of the game. During the second match, 5 players of either teams happened to receive red cards in 30 minutes time, 3 from PES United and 2 from Alumni team. Out of the passion to win and not willing to lose the opposite team, the players got involved in a small scuffle between the team players. Luckily, no one got hurt, and after the game, the players got it straightened it out among each other.

Alumni team came as a winner with the score 4:2. So, a draw for ECO vs. PES team would be enough to become the tournament champion, who they became eventually.

The last game of the AUCA Cup 2012 ended in draw with the score 1:1. ECO team really deserved to become the champion, as it has shown its strong will throughout the tournament. After the game, the organizers: Tengelbes Musaev and Farukh Abaev held the awarding ceremony by handing the awards and diplomas to the tournament’s participants.
