AUCA Women and the Arts Club

June 9, 2017

The AUCA Women and the Arts Club aims to uphold core value of AUCA of being globally responsible and socially merciful. Women and Arts Club honors the vision of promoting positive images of both genders and aims to raise awareness on campus about current gender issues on a local, national, and global scale. More about AUCA Women and the Arts Club read in the interview with Fatima Airan, sophomore student in Economics, international student from Afghanistan.

“Women and the Arts Club is an official club at AUCA. This club wants people to understand what feminism is and how to solve the stereotypes and misunderstandings women face. Besides the fact that this club wants people to realize the problems women face, also we want, together, find the solutions. Secondly, we want to create a medium for the voice of women and push the obstacles women face into the light, so they cannot be ignored. It is necessary to understand gender equality and women rights and this club’s goal is to make people aware of it.

Art is woven with society’s matters and issues and reflects the norms of a culture. By exhibiting different kinds of arts at AUCA, we wanted to show the important role art plays in gender equality, and how people reflect their thoughts about women through a wonderful piece. Also, art deals with the key questions in society, and gender equality is one of them. In a word, art is aesthetical and it artistically reflects the beauty and the problems of a society.

The art exhibition was dedicated to the International women’s day. Through this exhibition we wanted to give a chance to our AUCA students, so they could show their talents and express their thoughts through their skills about the contribution women have made throughout history and the struggle that women are still facing.

In the art exhibition, AUCA’s students, faculty, and stuff participated. All the participants were provided with certificate of participation and the two best paintings, best poetry, and the best video were selected through voting process, and were awarded.

Everyone was really supportive and engaged in the art exhibition because there were many votes. It would be pleasing to see more people engaged in matters regarding gender equality on campus for our next programs”.
