March 4, 2020

Arina Turgunbekova, the senior student of Liberal Arts and Sciences department with the human rights concentration, presented the Kyrgyz Republic in UNICEF Regional Conference “The Children's Access to Justice” in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 25-27 February, 2020.

The aim of the conference was to reflect on the progress made, lessons learned and best practices, with a specific focus on protecting child victims and witnesses of crime and equitable access to justice for the most vulnerable, including children with disabilities, refugee and migrant children and those living in poverty. So, 180 government officials and child protection experts from 21 countries took part.

Young people, participants of the Conference shared their personal experiences with justice systems and discussed about what decision makers can do to better protect children’s rights.

“It was an honor for me to deliver a speech on behalf of young people at the UNICEF Regional Conference “Children's Access to Justice” and to raise a hot topic like migrant children. As we all witness, cases of violence against children have become more frequent, which really disturbs and upsets me. On January, 2 migrant children already died from beatings by family relatives, one of whom was only 11 months old.

I hope that parents will not be so irresponsible towards their children, and that the state will do everything possible to protect our children.

Thanks to the organizers, as well as the conference participants, who also fight for the rights of children and their protection! Together - we are stronger”, - says Arina.
