Award from the National Commission on the State Language and Language Policy under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic

October 6, 2021

Last year, the Writing and Academic Resource Center (WARC) developed and filmed a series of video tutorials on the Kyrgyz language for students who do not speak Russian.

It is known that second-year students must take a mandatory state exam in the Kyrgyz language and literature. It is very difficult for foreign university students to prepare for the exam due to the lack of educational materials.

The Student Senate drew the facultys' attention to the existing problem and the need to provide additional support to students in learning the Kyrgyz language.

Mariya Antonova, director of the Writing and Academic Resource Center (WARC), Erica Aisen, coordinator of WARC, videographer Nursultan Shermambetov participated in the work on the project, Aiym Aidaralieva was first a screenwriter and presenter, and then Nurbolot Azamatov joined the project. The project was advised by the teacher of the Kyrgyz language and the head of the direction "Liberal Arts and Sciences" Daniyar Karabaev.

Filming of video tutorials began shortly before quarantine, but it was continued during quarantine, only the video format was changed to animation and voiceover. To date, 38 lessons have been filmed. The course is available on the center's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6qOovHuk47nc_FLA9hEWHNr9OvfY34s2 .

This work was highly appreciated by the National Commission on the State Language and Language Policy under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic. According to the order of the chairman of the commission S. Musayev, for the contribution to the development of the state language and the improvement of language policy, in connection with the celebration of the State Language Day on September 23, AUCA teacher Mariya Antonova was awarded a Diploma of the committee, and AUCA students Nurbolot Azamatov and Ayim Aidaralieva were awarded letters of thanks.
