Resource Book Presentation

December 5, 2012

American University of Central Asia law faculty, Elida Nogoibaeva, Kamila Mateeva, and Michelle Leighton, together with U.S. Fulbright Association President, Ruslan Myrzalimov, presented the  "Contemporary International Law - Materials and Cases" resource book to the Kyrgyz Stat Law Academy, Kyrgyz-Russian Slavonic University, and The Kyrgyz National University.

The book had been developed and published by the faculty members and students of the three higher educational establishments of Kyrgyzstan - the American University of Central Asia, the Kyrgyz State Law Academy and the Kyrgyz National University.

Michelle Leighton, Associate Professor of Law at AUCA and Deputy Director of the Tian Shan Policy Center/AUCA, described the book and its contents, emphasizing that the book is not a textbook, but it is a teaching resource. Teachers can use the material from the book to complement their own courses in international relations, governance, business, human rights, and other subjects of law. It can be used by lawyers and policy makers alike, as a viable resource for those who work on international issues.

The audience was informed that the book would be soon translated into Kyrgyz with additional support of the U.S. Embassy. There are plans to distribute this resource book in all the regions of the Republic.

"This book happens to be the first resource material of such kind to help modernize legal education in Kyrgyzstan. It will support teachers' work and allow students to gain access to the international materials, documents, and norms being taught and applied in the U.S. and other advanced Asian countries. The book can supplement the existing Kyrgyz law curriculum" - Ruslan Myrzalimov said.

Universities received copies of the book, and the event was concluded to the warm wishes addressed by faculty members and graduate students to the book contributors.
