PEACE AND CONFLICT STUDIES INTERNSHIP (9 credits)

Internship Description

The Internship in Peace and Conflict Studies is an important part of Peace and Conflict Studies Concentration that aims to develop professional skills, professional experience and professional network useful to ensure a smooth transition of students to a professional life after graduation. Internship will give students a unique opportunity to apply their theoretical and methodological knowledge, explore different professions, establish connections with potential employers as well as to receive, improve and practice their skills of professional work.

 

Internship Objectives

 

The internship has the following objectives:

  • to apply theoretical and methodological knowledge and analytical skills received earlier in practice;
  • to explore different professions to understand whether they can meet personal and professional interests;
  • to establish connections with potential employers and organizations that are interested in hiring graduates;
  • to develop professional skills and get an experience useful in the future professional life.

 

Internship Policy

 

  1. Internship should be taken during the third or fourth year of study in fall, spring or summer.
  2. Internship should include 100-120 hours in total (about three months) that is about 34-40 hours per month and 8-10 hours per week.
  3. Internship can be taken in a governmental, non-governmental or international organization. Student may choose his internship placement based on the list of those organizations that signed an internship agreement with AUCA.
  4. Student has to submit his Internship Placement Form filled and signed by his internship organization to his internship supervisor. Use Form 1 for Internship Placement.
  5. Student has to submit his Internship Journal to his internship supervisor.
  6. Student has to submit his Internship Report upon the completion of his internship to his internship supervisor.
  7. The final grade for internship is estimated based on the evaluation of Internship Journal and Internship Report.

 

Internship Assignments

 

Internship Journal – 50%

Internship Journal is the record of activities that student was engaged in during his internship hours including his observations and impressions about the new experience, ideas and feelings about the time spent in an internship organization, reflections and analysis of the situations faced with as well as interactions with others. Use Form 2 to write Internship Journal. Internship Journal can serve as a good foundation to write Internship Report upon the completion of the internship.

 

Internship Report – 50%

Internship Report is a summary of the internship experience including the position, responsibilities, tasks and skills learnt. Internship Report should be 3-5 pages long, typewritten, 12-point font, double spaced. Internship Report should include the following parts:

 

  1. Title Page: cover page with the name of student, his department and date when the report was made
  2. Table of Contents: the list of main sections or points of Internship Report
  3. Organization: organization name, location, mission and tasks, internal structure, policy
  4. Position and Responsibilities: student position within organization, his duties and responsibilities, tasks assigned to him during internship, projects he was engaged in
  5. Skills and Experience Learnt: reflections on the experience and skills learnt during internship in comparison to knowledge and skills student had before, the level of his preparedness to internship, the difficulties and obstacles he faced during internship
  6. Conclusions and Considerations: overall evaluation of internship by student, his ideas and considerations on further development of his skills and experience in regard to his personal and professional goals, recommendations to university on how to improve its internship policy and to internship organization on how to improve its internship program



Grading System

 

Your final grade will be determined as follows:

94-100 = А

90-93 = А-

87-89 = В+

83-86 = В

80-82 = В-

77-79 = С+

73-76 = С

70-72 = С-

67-69 = D+

63-66 = D

60-62 = D-

59 and lower = F
